KIU received the Silver Award for Best Green Project of the Year at the National Project Management Excellence Awards (NPME) 2025 for the successful planning and implementation of the Lahugala Smart Water Project, a community-centric sustainability initiative addressing safe water access in a rural, environmentally sensitive region of Sri Lanka.

The project focused on delivering a structured, technology-enabled solution to improve water quality, reliability, and long-term resource management for the Lahugala community. Implemented through disciplined project governance, stakeholder coordination, and risk-managed execution, the initiative produced measurable environmental and social impact while ensuring sustainability beyond project completion.

This recognition highlights KIU’s capability to translate environmental responsibility into well-governed, high-impact green projects, reinforcing its leadership in climate-conscious development and community-focused sustainability initiatives aligned with national and global environmental goals.
