KIU History reflects the journey of a visionary non-state higher education institute that has grown into a recognized name in Sri Lanka’s academic landscape. Established in 2009 under the Companies Act No. 07 of 2007, KIU University was founded with a clear mission to provide high-quality higher education that meets both national and international standards.
Located in Malabe Road, Thalangama North, Koswatta, Battaramulla, Colombo, KIU began its journey with a strong commitment to academic excellence and student development. Over the years, the University has continuously expanded its academic offerings and strengthened its reputation as a leading private university in Sri Lanka.
In 2015, KIU launched its first three degree programs, marking a significant milestone in its academic development. Since then, the University has grown steadily, now offering a wide range of undergraduate and postgraduate programs across multiple disciplines. KIU has proudly graduated over 6,500 students, contributing to the development of skilled professionals both locally and internationally.
KIU University is recognized by the University Grants Commission under Section 25A of the Universities Act No. 16 of 1978 and is approved by the Ministry of Higher Education. This recognition highlights the institution’s commitment to maintaining high academic standards and delivering quality education.
Through various initiatives, including government-supported student loan schemes, KIU has expanded access to higher education for talented students across Sri Lanka. Its growth reflects a continuous dedication to innovation, inclusivity, and academic excellence.
