Our Journey: From Vision to Excellence
Established in 2009 under the Companies Act No. 07 of 2007, KIU began as a visionary non-state higher education institute in Sri Lanka. It is located at No. 249/1, Malabe Road, Thalangama North, Koswatta, Battaramulla, Colombo.
KIU launched its first three-degree programmes in 2015 and has since grown to offer fourteen undergraduate and five postgraduate programmes, serving both national and international students. Over the years, more than 6,500 students have successfully graduated, celebrating their achievements at the University’s convocations.
Recognised by the University Grants Commission under section 25A of the Universities Act, No. 16 of 1978 and approved by the Ministry of Higher Education, KIU has steadily built a reputation for academic excellence, research innovation, and student-centered education. Initiatives like the government’s interest-free student loan scheme have expanded access to higher education for talented students across Sri Lanka.
From its humble beginnings to its current status as a premier NSHEI, KIU’s evolution reflects an unwavering commitment to quality, innovation, and socio-economic development. The University’s Institutional Review score of 85.86% further underscores its position as a benchmark for private higher education in Sri Lanka.
