Staff Development Committee

Staff Development Committee

The staff development committee (SDC) of KIU was established in August 2021 to promote and nurture staff development within the institute. It is dedicated to promoting a culture of continuous professional growth and academic excellence. Its primary focus is to support staff at all levels in aligning their personal development goals with the strategic objectives of the university, thereby enhancing institutional effectiveness, staff motivation, and job satisfaction.

Vision

To be a leading centre of excellence in academic staff development, empowering educators to achieve their highest potential and contribute innovatively to the growth of KIU and the broader community.

Mission

To enhance the professional and personal development of academic staff through high-quality training, workshops, and programs that foster academic excellence, support career growth, and strengthen the overall effectiveness and impact of KIU as a premier higher education institution.

Core Functions

The SDC of KIU is responsible for conducting twelve (12) staff development programs each year, both within the institute and outside, including those that foster the academic and research skills of the staff members. The staff development programs offered by the SDC of KIU are designed according to the manual of UGC (Training Manual on Induction Program for Academic Staff of Sri Lankan Universities), and those programs cover a variety of topics that are essential for university lecturers that help them to navigate through their career and daily life at any higher education institution.

The cycle of staff development programs is as follows,

SDP 1: Orientation as a lecturer

SDP 2: Counselling and Mentoring

SDP 3: Teaching and Learning Methods

SDP 4: Assessment and Evaluation

SDP 5: Curriculum Design and Revision

SDP 6: ICT Skills in Higher Education

SDP 7: Teaching Practices

SDP 8: Research in Higher Education

SDP9: University Administrative Procedure

SDP 10: Strategic Planning and Management for Universities

Each academic staff who has been recruited to the KIU academic staff category should undergo the whole course of the program. The SDC will issue a certificate after the successful completion of each staff development program mentioned in the above cycle. Feedback from the staff members will be used to develop by incorporating their constructive comments. Upon the completion of the cycle of staff development programs, a list of names will be submitted to the Registrar at KIU.

Workshops Highlights

Welcome from the KIU Students' Union

“My time at Cambridge has been the most rewarding few years of my life. I applied with an idea of Cambridge as this distant mythical place where I couldn’t quite
imagine myself belonging, but I now struggle to see myself anywhere else.

The opportunities at Cambridge are like no other – from participating in clubs and societies to finding your way around College and learning to live independently. Most of all, the chance to study a subject you love while surrounded by students and academics who are just as passionate about it as you are leaves you with skills to take forward into life far beyond those you were expecting when you applied. I cannot encourage you enough to read on and then take the leap and apply!”
