The Faculty of Nursing currently comprises two academic departments that together nurture excellence in both professional nursing education and caregiving practice.
The Department of Nursing is dedicated to producing highly skilled, ethical, and research-oriented nurses who are capable of leading the future of healthcare.
Through the Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Nursing program — recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) and Ministry of Higher Education — the department offers a comprehensive and contemporary curriculum aligned with national and international standards.Students gain in-depth knowledge in areas such as adult nursing, maternal and child health, community health, mental health nursing, leadership, research, and nursing education.
The Department of Nursing also encourages lifelong learning and academic growth, providing clear pathways for graduates to pursue postgraduate studies (MSc, MPhil, PhD) and professional specialization both in Sri Lanka and abroad.
Our mission is to empower nursing professionals who are compassionate in care, innovative in practice, and visionary in leadership — capable of transforming healthcare delivery globally.
The Department of Care Advancement focuses on developing the fundamental caregiving skills essential for supporting patients and the elderly with dignity and empathy.
The department offers the Certificate in Caregiver (NVQ Level 3), a nationally recognized qualification designed to prepare students for entry-level roles in hospitals, eldercare facilities, and home-based care environments.
This hands-on, practical program trains learners in essential areas such as basic nursing care, patient safety, communication, hygiene management, nutrition, and emotional support. Through guided training and supervised clinical exposure, students develop confidence and competence to provide quality care under professional supervision.
Certificate holders of this program are equipped to begin rewarding careers as professional caregivers or to progress into higher levels of caregiving and healthcare education. The Department of Care Advancement is committed to fostering compassion, responsibility, and professional integrity in all who enter the field of care.
