The Bachelor of Laws Honours (LL.B) offered by the Faculty of Law at KIU University, Sri Lanka, is a UGC-recognized four-year law degree designed for students aspiring to build a career in law, justice, or governance.

Bachelor of Laws Honours [LLB. (Hons)] degree programme is a unique degree programme presented by the KIU. It is a four-year degree programme, which offers students the dynamic learning experience of law subjects included in a Bachelor of Laws degree programme with the unique combination of legal studies with a touch on fundamental knowledge in management to meet up the challenges in the globalized corporate world. The LL.B. (Honours) Degree Programme is approved by the Ministry of Higher Education and is duly accredited by the University Grants Commission (UGC) of Sri Lanka. With each academic year, comprising of two semesters, this degree programme includes a curriculum of taught courses that embraces all-important law subjects plus the opportunity to have practical experience in the form of compulsory internship placement and to acquire the skills of doing research at the undergraduate level by submitting a dissertation. The KIU offers students an innovative degree program in law, tailored to best help the undergraduates in law to achieve their career goals in the field of Law with a value-added focus on the management sphere.

The LL.B program is structured across four years and eight semesters, combining compulsory and elective modules with practical training.

  • Year 1 : Legal System of Sri Lanka, Legal Method, Constitutional Law, Family Law, Administrative Law, Criminal Law, Land Law, Law of Contract.
  • Year 2 : Law of Delict, Equity and Trusts, Statutory Interpretation, Commercial Law, Public International Law, Labour Law, Private International Law, Human Rights Law, Law of Evidence, Environmental Law, International Institutions.
  • Year 3 : Company Law, International Humanitarian Law, Intellectual Property Law, International Investment Law, Criminal Procedure, Tax Law, Construction Law, Insurance Law, Media Law, Civil Procedure, Competition Law, Banking Law, International Criminal Law.
  • Year 4 : Jurisprudence, Research Methodology, ICT Law, Arbitration Law, Air and Space Law, International Trade Law, Law of the Sea, Ethics of Legal Profession, Dissertation, Law and Medicine, Sports Law, Tourism and Hospitality Law.

Entry requirements of the LLB (Hons) degree program are for applicants who:

  •  should possess a minimum of two Credit passes for core subjects and a Simple pass in GCE (A/L) or London (A/L) in any stream in a single sitting or International equivalents with equivalent qualifications as approved by the Ministry of Higher Education and;
  •  a Credit pass in the English Language and a Credit pass in the Sinhala or Tamil Language, obtained at the G.C.E. (O/L) Examination or National Certificate of General Education Examination, or an examination recognized by the Department of Examinations of Sri Lanka as equal to the above examinations.
