About the Centre for Quality Assurance

The Centre for Quality Assurance (CQA) of KIU is responsible for providing guidance and carrying out quality assurance activities and coordinating QA activities in align with the policy framework established by the Quality Assurance Council (QAC) (https://www.eugc.ac.lk/qac/ ) of the University Grants Commission (UGC) (https://www.ugc.ac.lk/ ) and Nonstate Division, Ministry of Education.

The Centre for Quality Assurance (CQA) of KIU is committed to providing the highest quality education and services to our students. Its primary purpose is to monitor, assess, and improve various aspects of the university’s operations to enhance the overall educational experience for students and enhance the institution’s reputation. It is pivotal in ensuring that our academic programs and administrative processes meet and exceed the highest standards.

The key aims are as follows:

  • Establish and maintain strong Quality Assurance (QA) mechanisms that ensure the education system at KIU meets national and international standards
  • Foster a culture of continuous quality improvement within KIU by promoting sustainable practices that support academic and institutional excellence
  • Build a clear and detailed institutional profile informed by self-review and SWOT analysis of academic programs, facilitating targeted self-improvement initiatives and strategic development

Members of the CQA

The Centre for Quality Assurance (CQA) of KIU is responsible for providing guidance and carrying out quality assurance activities and coordinating these activities in line with the National Quality Assurance Framework of Sri Lanka under the directions of the Quality Assurance Council (QAC) of University Grants Commission (UGC) further getting

specific instructions from the Monitoring unit of the Ministry of Higer Education Non-State Division.

The Centre for Quality Assurance (CQA) of KIU is committed to providing the highest quality education and services to our students. Its primary purpose is to monitor, assess, and improve various aspects of the university’s operations to enhance the overall educational experience for students and enhance the institution’s reputation. It is pivotal in ensuring that our academic programs and administrative processes meet and exceed the highest standards.

  • Support the university and programme offering entities (units, departments, faculties, and institutes) within the university in preparation for external quality assurance, assessment, and accreditation requirements.

  • Offer guidance and assistance to programme offering entities in defining programme objectives and outcomes, graduate profiles, and curricula which are in accordance with national reference points such as the Sri Lanka qualification Framework (SLQF) and Subject Benchmark Statements (SBS).

  • Support establishment and effective functioning of Faculty Internal Quality Assurance Cells (IQACs).

  • Promote and coordinate quality assurance activities within the university and in institutions affiliated with the university through the conduct of workshops, seminars, development of manuals, and other appropriate capacity-building activities.

  • Liaise with the Ministry of Higher Education Specified Authority for Quality assurance and other external quality assurance agencies as well as relevant international agencies.

  • Develop, review, and revise by–laws and standard operational procedures necessary for governance and management of the CQA.
  • Coordinate quality enhancement efforts across the faculty by collaborating with committees and departments, including Curriculum & Academic Development and Teaching & Learning Committees.

  • Work with KIU’s Center for Quality Assurance (CQA) to support Institutional and Program Reviews for the Faculty.

  • Prepare essential documentation for Institutional and Program Reviews.

  • Facilitate and track the implementation of follow-up actions from review recommendations.

  • Engage with QA Cells in other KIU faculties and institutions to share best practices and improve educational quality in Sri Lanka, while collecting and analyzing QA data and suggesting improvements based on findings.
