Year: 2025
Dr. Jagath Seneviratne was honored with a Global Recognition Award 2025 in recognition of his exceptional leadership and long-standing contributions to education, workforce development, and sustainable socio-economic advancement in Sri Lanka.
About Dr. Jagath Seneviratne
Dr. Jagath Seneviratne serves as Chairman of the KIU Group of Companies and President of KIU University — roles through which he has shaped one of Sri Lanka’s most dynamic private higher education institutions. His connection to sustainability and international cooperation extends to his founding role at Green Cross Sri Lanka, which he established as Charter President in 2005 as the 29th member of the global Green Cross family.
From the very beginning of KIU’s journey, Dr. Seneviratne envisioned producing graduates who are skillful, knowledge-savvy, and well-disciplined — graduates who will thrive in the global job market and meet the future needs of the world. Under his leadership, KIU has provided increased higher education opportunities in both STEM and HEMS fields, fulfilling the higher education aspirations of students and professionals from across Sri Lanka where the state sector has been unable to accommodate demand.
A Vision That Spans Education, Sustainability, and Community
The award acknowledges his visionary role in expanding access to quality higher education, strengthening industry-aligned skills development, and promoting employment-oriented academic pathways with global relevance. Under his leadership, multiple initiatives have been implemented to bridge education with real-world impact, particularly in healthcare, sustainability, and international workforce mobility.
KIU University under his chairmanship has grown to offer academic programmes built on high standards, cutting-edge teaching methodologies, and a strong emphasis on innovation — continuously enhancing its infrastructure, including modern laboratories, skills development centres, IT facilities, and clinical training sites, to ensure students receive a comprehensive, future-focused education that aligns with national needs and global trends.
The KIU Group today comprises KIU University, EIPER International (Private) Limited, Green Cross Sri Lanka, and PYG Lan (Pvt) Ltd. — a portfolio that spans higher education, licensed international recruitment, and environmental stewardship. This breadth of impact across multiple sectors is central to what the Global Recognition Award acknowledges.
Institutional Achievements Under His Leadership
Dr. Seneviratne’s tenure has seen KIU receive a number of significant national and international recognitions. In recognition of KIU’s scale, relevance, and social impact, the institution’s flagship caregiving workforce project received the Gold Award in the Healthcare Sector at the National Project Management Excellence Awards organised by the Project Management Institute (PMI) Colombo Chapter. Additionally, the Lahugala Smart Water Project — implemented through Green Cross Sri Lanka — earned the Energy Globe National Award, placing KIU’s sustainability work among recognised initiatives globally.
Since being granted degree-awarding status in 2015, KIU has grown its academic portfolio to include 14 undergraduate and 5 postgraduate degree programmes across 8 faculties and 17 departments — standing today as one of Sri Lanka’s most acclaimed private universities, known for its innovative programmes, world-class infrastructure, and strong academic reputation.
A Recognition That Reflects Decades of Commitment
This international recognition reflects Dr. Seneviratne’s enduring commitment to inclusive growth, institutional excellence, and national development through education. It stands as an acknowledgment not just of personal achievement, but of an institutional vision that has consistently translated into measurable impact for students, communities, and Sri Lanka’s development as a whole.
